There is money to be made in promoting dating sites. So, of course, that was my excuse a couple of years ago after I got divorced to check them all out. I didn’t want to admit I was “looking for love online.” I’m obviously not so shy anymore.
Anyway, my first site to “review” was eHarmony.com. We’ve all seen the ads on TV over and over and over again. So, I thought I’d take their Free Personality Profile. After all, it is valued at over $40!
I carefully plugged in all their requested information of what I like to do and what I want in a mate. It took me over 45 minutes. Then I was ready to meet my match. It searched the entire world… not one match! NOT ONE! Thinking I’m being too critical, I went back and changed a few specifications (ie I originally said I wanted a non-smoker, but changed to accept a social smoker).
Now I had 2 matches in the entire world. The first match was a guy from PA. His top priorities in life were 1) His Dog, 2) His Other Dog, and 3)…. I HATE Dogs! I’m serious. I despise them. Always have. I will NEVER own a dog. There is nothing I hate more than visiting someone and their dog licks me.
So, on to the next match… This guy lived in this very town as me! In a town of 1700, everyone knows everyone, so just reading his credentials, I knew exactly who it was. My friends and I had a good laugh over it and actually teased him about it. He blamed it on his mother, and took down his profile the next day. He has since went on to get married to a chick he actually met online.
So eHarmony was not exactly kind to me, but obviously they are making big bucks and hopefully helping some people actually find true love and not just take their money. Those TV commercial spots can’t be cheap.
Maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll review some more dating sites in the future. If I’m not busy out on a date or something.
Hi Kim.
Since you live in a small town of 1700 people, eh’s proximity searches will not work well for you. If you want more matches, I suggest you change your zip code setting to the nearest major metropolitan area. See other tips in http://www.pinoy.ca/eharmony/archives/15 .
Good luck in your search!
