Kim Walks the Streets
Posted by kim on October 11, 2006
I walked the streets last night. No, not for profit, but for a good cause. October is National Fire Prevention Month, and the civic organizations in town got together to distribute free smoke alarms and batteries to all houses that needed them. Smoke detectors don’t prevent fires, but they do save lives.
I think I have over a dozen smoke detectors in my new house. Inside and outside each bedroom. I pray they never have to be put to use. Fire is one of my ultimate fears. Besides mice. And dogs.
My “walking the streets” line made me think of a joke I heard…
There was a couple struggling financially, so the wife offered to sell herself to make ends meet. She comes home after the first night and reports that she made $100.50. The husband replies, “50¢!? Which cheapskate only gave you 50¢?” To which she replied, “All of them.”
Ok, so it wasn’t that funny. Have a few drinks, then retell it.
I’ll be out and about walking the streets again next week peddling peanuts for Kiwanis Peanut Day. Watch out for nuts selling nuts. I crack myself up sometimes.
