Gripe #1 My Spice Rack
Posted by kim on April 3, 2007
So, I’ve been in my new house over six months now, and am still dealing with unresolved issues. Of course, now that everyone is paid, they try to pass the buck on to someone else. It gets quite frustrating. Since I’m in a semi-crabby mood today (my poor kids), I thought I would start a segment, maybe even a series of my gripes. There are SO many things I would do different if I were too re-build. Heck, I have a floorplan for HouseForKim 2.0 already in my head.
I presumed I was getting a wooden spice rack in the oak cabinet by my oven. When the contractors installed my cupboards from The Kitchen Place, that particular cabinet came with the wrong door. The correct door did not come in until after I was moved in, and they forgot about the spice rack. I wait again. They bring out a cheap white wire spice rack that doesn’t even fit correctly, as three screws could only be used, and the fourth corner was glued.
I call to inquire why I didn’t get a wood spice rack, and was told Homecrest didn’t make that kind. So I tried to make this one work, but my door will not fully close with any spices in it, and it constantly knocks the middle shelf and prongs out. So, when they came again to fix other problems (trust me, I have a list), I reiterated how I hate my spice rack.
So, now I get this letter in the mail that I can have a wooden spice rack for only $87 more. WTH. I call saying I thought this was what I was getting in the first place as part of my $13K cabinetry order, then I don’t because supposedly I can’t. And now I can, for $87? Kim is not happy. I got the spiel that this is from Showplace Wood Products, and they are making an exception of mixing company brands just for me. Um, I could get one at Target for $24.
Well, thanks to my best friend, Google, I learned Homecrest does make a door-mounted combo rack that would look 100% better than the cheapo I have in there now. Hmmmm. Stay tuned for developments.
Now I can hear those of you that know me well saying “Kim doesn’t even cook” so who cares about her spice rack? I admit, I don’t plan on using spices often, but, by gosh, I would like the cupboard door to close properly and look nice when it’s opened.

Read this entire blog and you will get a very good understanding of Kims issues. They always look better when you only know one side of the story.

Actually, I’d love to hear the ‘other’ side of this story!

Of course Kim has issues – she is a single mom! I’m a single mom with 2 kids, and I don’t know how she manages with 4! I wish I could afford to build a new house. Reading her writings gives me inspiration that single moms don’t need husbands to survive!
