I believe in fate over online love.

I get asked quite often what online dating services I recommend. Yeah, me. Trust me, I laugh, too, as I am no expert. I actually know a few couples that have gotten married after meeting on Date.com and Match.com (Free 3 Day Trial), but I am too cheap to ever have paid for a dating service. I have to admit I prefer being in a relationship over looking for dates.

So if you’re frugal like me, I suggest a totally free dating service such as OkCupid.com (beware of multiple pop-ups) or HotOrNot.com (you don’t have to be “rated” to meet others), or one that offers a “free” trial.

A few years ago, I tested out Yahoo Personals Free 7 Day Pass Offer, and whoa, within 24 hours I got over 100 messages from different men. At that point, I made my profile non-searchable, as I was embarrassed and afraid that someone I knew would see my profile. And I waded through the dozens of men that didn’t fit my requirements. There is obviously a higher ratio of desperate men over women on Yahoo! Personals.

I agreed to meet one of the guys for lunch since I had a meeting in his city. I said I would call when I finished to tell him I was on my way. He didn’t answer. I left a message and waited. He finally called back saying “Geez, I didn’t really think you’d meet me, and I can’t get away.” Uh huh. I have a few other somewhat boring online dating stories, but we’ll save those for a rainy day.

I honestly believe that LOVE happens when you least expect it and are not searching for it. And you know when that person is “the one.”

What I’m eating: Papa Murphy’s Thin Crust deLITE Pizza Claims to have 1/2 the carbs and 1/2 the calories of their regular pizza, but I swear you have to eat twice as much to get full. But they use a different sauce that I like better than the regular pizza.

I find the whole concept of going out with strangers frightening. Whatever happened to meeting someone in the places you usually hang out? I’d be too scared to put an ad on a dating site.

I once replied to an online ad. The guy was in this area. It was going well, we were emailing and IMing until he sent his picture. I’m not vain or anything but it was not.. a good picture. Scary :S
