Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Suze Orman! She is a big inspiration and motivates me to invest my money wisely.
I also attended a “Dressing for Life” style show and felt a bit scolded that society dresses too “sexy” and not “modest” enough. The crowd was mostly old ladies. In fact, at my table, I was the youngest, and my mother was the second youngest. I think the lecture would have been better for my daughters and other teenage girls who dress too provocatively, as there was a lot of discussion on “saving yourself” for marriage. But at least Jesus forgives us that didn’t.
And in my effort to be more fit and live healthy, I scheduled dentist and eye doctor appointments. I already did the whole “spread ‘em” doctor thing and am fine in that area. I seem to procrastinate going to doctors as my medical insurance coverage sucks. And as good as the idea may seem, I can’t marry a guy just for his group health insurance. There has to be love involved.
I can’t get into the eye doctor until next month. I’m going to inquire about getting an enhancement surgery done (on my eyes, not my bosom), since my eyes are slowing getting worse. I had Lasik eye surgery eight years ago, and my eyes were so bad then that they said I would still need reading glasses, but I ended up being 20/20. I still see pretty well during the day, but at night (and under fluorescent lights for some reason), I need glasses.
I went to the dentist yesterday after a two year hiatus. I have not had any cavities since I was a kid (when they used to clamp your mouth open with a metal contraption), and now I have a couple of cavities plus a couple of old fillings need to be replaced. I’m fine with that though as I’m going to have the silver fillings replaced with white ones so they aren’t noticeable. I just spent $1000 on my youngest’s cavities, and now will spend that much on mine!
The hygienist could not believe that I have never had braces since my teeth are so straight. I’m glad I didn’t need them as my parents could have never afforded them. I just got done paying for three of my kids to have braces, and the youngest one will need them soon.
But the dentist did say it appears that I grind my teeth as night. Did you know there is actually a diagnosis for teeth grinding? Me either, it’s called bruxism. There’s the word of the day for ya. And the number one cause of bruxism? STRESS! He asked if I noticed that I grind my teeth at night? Um, no, I’m sleeping. And since I’m not married, I sleep alone so no one else notices either. He said he didn’t have to ask if I was stressed since it must be hard being a single mom with four kids. Damn straight.
Yesterday I was stressed because my vehicle was shaking so bad when driving it, and the warranty ran out about 4000 miles ago. I decided to have my friend’s husband look it first before making an appointment. He asked if I’d been mud running? Seems I just had too much mud in the rims and nothing a good car wash couldn’t fix. I would have been embarrassed if I took it into the shop! Some days I think I don’t need a husband, and other days I think one would be nice to put in gas and wash my car for me, among other things.
Ok, so the title of this post is irrelevant to the contents. Sue me. You wouldn’t be the first. But I was thinking of my good friend, Ian, who owns Toledo.com (and lives in Toledo, go figure) and decided to give him a shout-out. Hi Ian!
