I promise not to write about my dad’s ghost haunting my house today. Instead, I thought I’d share before and after photos of my mother’s recently redone kitchen. Thanks to my mom for writing up the details.
When we moved to this old farm house 25 years ago, the cupboards had been painted and were gooey and very dirty. Wood look was the in thing, so we stripped, stained and varnished them. I always disliked the wood grain because they were just plain old plywood. I finally decided to change them when I heard about Rust-oleum’s Cabinet Transformation Kit. Once I redid the cupboards and put new handles on them, it seemed that the walls needed painting. The wallpaper was outdated and a new countertop would be nice. My son could get me a good deal on a countertop. My daughter, Kim, could get me an ever better deal on a Pfister faucet. So then my other son decided I needed a new sink as well and got that for me for Mother’s Day.
I’m really pleased with the light shade of cabinets as it makes the small kitchen seem bigger and brighter. I chose the Brookwood 1-Handle Kitchen Faucet because I thought it had a charm that would compliment the “old house” and fit right into the modern, but rustic look of the kitchen. It all went together well and best of all, no more leaks!
I think it turned out really well also! My mom forgot to mention that I had gotten the new cabinet hardware on clearance for 25¢ each, but didn’t use myself as I didn’t get enough to use in my master bath where I had planned to use them, so my loss was her gain! I’m also glad that my mom got rid of the lavender paint and floral wall border (which I never did like) and went with the burgundy (my fave color)! Now to see if my brother can get me a good deal on a new countertop for my kitchen… And have my mom write for me more often…
