Calgon Take Me Away (and then drain correctly)

Posted by kim 09.27.2006 8:17 am in Habitations

A few years ago, at my old house, the sewer backed up in the basement. My house was literally full of crap. And me being the thrifty shopper wanted to save $25 on my homeowner’s insurance, so didn’t have sewer coverage. Luckily, it proved to the be the city’s fault of overgrown tree roots, so their insurance paid out.

Since my new house is in a new development with no existing trees, and up on a hill so the water runneth downward, I thought I should have no sewer problems. I thought wrong.

After testing out the showers and whirlpool on our first night in the house, my basement was filling with water (luckily just H2O and not sewage). And my plumber is out of town bear hunting. Great. Just great. Luckily, there is another plumber in town to come help this damsel in distress.

And that was just the beginning of my nighttime dilemmas…. I kept hearing noises… My air mattress went flat… I needed a stiff drink…

Guess where I’m blogging from?! Tahiti, you say? No, but good guess. I have internet access at the new house! I will be MIA for a few days moving in. Everyone is invited to an “unloading the trailer party” this weekend. Refreshments will be available.

5th Anniversary of my 29th Birthday

My birthday yesterday was pretty uneventful, which is probably a good thing (I won’t comment on the night before). I was flattered to receive so many emails and ecards from strangers wishing me a Happy Birthday. The best was the poem Shmuly wrote for me.
