Whore Ho Jo?

For the last two years, Trip Advisor has published the 10 Dirtiest Hotels in the U.S. based on traveler ratings for cleanliness. Well, I have a nomination for next year.

I was a bit suspicious with Howard Johnson’s URL when I went to book the room for this past weekend for Patrick and me. HOJO? Sounds like a hooker’s name. But they offered the main things I look for when booking a room - internet access, breakfast, and close distance to a sports bar.

So I arrived yesterday after check-in time, but no rooms were ready yet. And they couldn’t locate my TripRewards number (I better get credit). I am not a patient person. And I discover it is Motel, not a Hotel. Yes, there is a difference. The first big turn-off was the unclean toilet and the mildew in the shower. The internet access sucked. The breakfast sucked. But we were only one block away from the bar, and the drinks went down fine.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was not having the bathtub leak all over the floor, but when I bent over to grab my ankles (exercising, mother), I noticed toenail clippings all over the carpet, and they were not ours! Nothing like killing the moment. Looks like it’s the Comfort Inn next time.

One Constructive Comment to “Whore Ho Jo?”

Update, Howard Johnson sent me an apology and a check for $30 - roughly half the cost of the room. I’m glad they acknowledged the mistakes, but I’m still never going to stay at the HoJo in North Platte again.
