Stitches in my Time

posted by kim 07.10.2008 10:46 pm in Digressions

My son asked if I’d make supper early tonight (yes, we call it supper instead of dinner here in hickville) as he had a busy schedule. It sounded like a perfect plan since I only had Slim-Fast for lunch, and my stomach was growling. I decided to make one of my specialties…. Hamburger Helper. And blueberry muffins sounded good (with real blueberries, no imitations allowed).

Dirt Heart Pint GlassSo as I attempted to grab a bowl from the cupboard, two glass pint glasses (from my infamous bar collection) came tumbling down, and a piece of broken glass jabbed into my right wrist. Blood was squirting everywhere! I sent my daughter to the neighbor’s house (EMT) to ask for steri-strips, but they weren’t home. And since I had already soaked up one hand towel in blood, and my fingers were becoming numb, I decided to call the doctor’s office since it was before closing time.

My son drove me up there, and of course the first question they ask is when was your last tetanus shot. And if you don’t remember, get ready for a shot in the butt (actually it was my arm, my hip probably wouldn’t have hurt as much). The physician’s assistant jokingly asked if I was trying to commit suicide by slitting my wrists. He said I probably cut a nerve since my fingers were numb (still is, and it feels funny to type). Anyway, they cleaned it up, stitched me up, and sent me home.

I’m now in the mood for a drink. I’ll have to ask the bartender if I can take a new pint glass home with me.

Ouch Kim! That made me cringe just reading it! I hope it feels much better in the morning.

Wow, Kim, hope it heals up OK. Yeah, guess typing would feel “funny” after that. Glad you had someone to drive you to the doctor. You didn’t say how many stiches you got? Hope it’s feeling better.

I’m all bandaged up yet so not sure how many stitches are under there yet.

I haven’t needed stitches since I was a little girl (episiotomy excluded) - both times I was with my uncle (who is actually younger than me) - one on the top of my head for climbing a pole in my grandparent’s basement - the other time in my chin when I wrecked my bike on the gravel.

Wow - hope your arm gets better soon! At least you can have a sense of humour about it all. Go for the drink - pint glass and all. Just maybe request a plastic pint glass this time. LOL

Kim I am so sorry, I hope the nerves heal fast. That might affect your typing on the computer. It sucks, trying to do something good, and something bad happens.
I made a post on my blog you might find fimiliar, since you are from hicksville too. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to be from a small rural area. Sometimes it sucks. I like the fact we can pull up to the “Family Dollar” Store and not have to circle a parking lot for 30 minutes to walk a mile, like in big cities. I can run in and out of the store within a few minutes. 1 good thing about hicksville. lol.
Take care and hope you are better soon. You think the rumor is around town yet that you tried to commit suicide. That is how it would be here, it might even show up in the local paper.
    I feel your pain.

So Sorry Kim, I hope you won’t have permanent nerve damage - I suppose there is no way to tell yet. Things like that happen so DARN quick. Did Taylor have to make the Hamburger Helper? Not really funny - I feel for you.

Teresa, yes the joys of living in a small town! Saw the physician assistant at the bar last night, “There’s my girl that tried to commit suicide by making Hamburger Helper” as he kissed me on the cheek.

Marlene, Taylor is not a cooker! I made supper when I got home as I was injected with anesthetic and in no pain. Of course, it hurts now when I attempt to play too many Facebook games. ;-)

Wow, Cool, at least your hickville isn’t a dry county. Believe it or not, my hickville is dry, everyone has to drive 16 miles east for Oklahoma beer, not as strong as Texas beer, or about 25 miles to the West for Texas beer.
But we do have a Country Club bar, and a bar at a hotel, and of course the American Legion Bar. You have to be a member of these to enter. You have to buy a membership at the Hotel Bar if you are staying there. I bet we have some bootleggers in town. I really don’t know, because I am not much of a drinker, I am afraid of what I might do if I were.

I forgot to put a new bandage over my stitches after I showered this morning, and snagged the end stitch ripping the incision open again. More bleeding, more ouch. I’ve been unable to play some of my online games due to the pain!
