Actually it wasn’t a disaster, but it’s a funny story to tell, and I like giving my brother a hard time.
I presumed my dishwasher wasn’t draining because the dishes from all the Christmas cookies & candy that we made didn’t get rinsed out first, so I figured the chocolate and peanuts and such clogged it up. I tried several things to no avail to fix it, each time failing and then having to scoop out the water with cups and a turkey baster. And my hands were wrinkled from having to wash dishes by hand.
So when I hosted Christmas here, my cousin said he’d look at it, but he wanted to run it again to see exactly what the problem was. Once it was full of water, he said he had no idea, and I was left to scoop once again, this time accidentally washing my new cell phone with the load of soaked towels*.
Then my brother takes a stab at “fixing” it. Him and a friend (after a few beers) attempt to pull out the dishwasher to investigate, but can only get it to pull out a few inches, so give up and go to the bar. Once they’re gone, my son notices that water is leaking into the basement now below the dishwasher area. I call my brother at the bar, and he’ll “be right there”.
A few hours later, after getting stuck in a snow bank and having to get pulled out, they show up. My brother says he fixed the problem and is off to the bar again. I ask how he fixed it that quick. He “shut off the water valve”. Makes me laugh again just to type it.
Luckily one of my new (and sober) friends offered to come over to fix it. He found the problem - a kink besides the garbage disposal was it. But when they tried to pull out the dishwasher, they broke a water line, thus the leak into the basement. But all is well now and the dishes are sparkling clean again.
*My cell phone still worked after going through the washing machine! My brother suggested I should have just thrown it in the dryer as well to dry it out. But I simply put it in a bag of rice, as my aunt recommended, so the rice could pull out the moisture. And it’s as good as gold again.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful… Actually the cold and snowy weather just plain sucks. And we’ve only turned on the fireplace once. The thermostat is set at 70 degrees, yet I’m still cold. So I put a space heater in my office. I hope the chills don’t mean I’m getting sick. I also put flannel sheets on my bed. Then I had a dream that we were staying at my Dad’s house again. Then I dreamt that I was having another Lasik eye surgery. Both were nightmares.
I finally mailed out my free Christmas postcards today. And I had the girls wrap all of the presents except their own, which are still waiting for me. Tatym accidentally found a Nintendo Wii under my bed (said she was just wondering if she could fit under there). I told her it’s better to give than receive, so we are giving the Wii to my friends’ 14-yr old son that was just diagnosed with cancer. This is the friend that lets me borrow her husband to fix things around my house. Please keep Dalton in your prayers as it looks like they’ll be spending Christmas at the hospital.

And P.S. Santa bought another Wii at Walmart yesterday. Need Last Minute Gift Ideas? Here’s the perfect gift for the man on your list.

Long live the 80’s! First I posted a video of me from 1987. Then Sam Harrelson posted Shawn Collin’s passport pic from 1987 (nice bangs buddy). Now Brian Littleton announced that ShareASale is hosting an 80’s prom themed party at the upcoming Affiliate Summit West 2009 in Las Vegas. Attendees can submit their prom photos to possibly be used for the invitation, and they’ll display all of them at the party. This is going to be so much fun! I already have my rad leg warmers and jelly bracelets packed. I couldn’t find the professional pics from either prom with my #13 date, but I found this one taken at my dad’s house before my junior prom in 1989 (my grandma sewed my dress). My dad still has that same paneling in his house. And did you know they still make Dyeables pumps? Like gag me with a spoon.
