I actually started writing this post this morning after hearing about British star Jade Goody dying of ovarian cancer, but decided to “draft” it as writing/talking about cancer sucks. And now I’m even more saddened as one of my neighbors, Tom Martin, died this afternoon from liver cancer that took him quickly. He was Tatym’s PE teacher, and they loved to tease each other. He had written a children’s book and asked Tatym to help illustrate it. She finished it just a few days ago, so I hope he got to see the final draft before he passed. He was a wonderful man and touched many lives, and we know now he is in a better place with God above.
I swear cancer is becoming an epidemic in our community. First my dad (colon cancer), my grandma (breast cancer) and my cousin (testicular cancer) and within the last year several others have been diagnosed from my classmate to my classmate’s son to my classmates’ parents (plural), from my daughter’s friend’s mom to my son’s friend’s dad, from my bank teller to my son’s school secretary (rest in peace, Mrs. C) to my daughter’s doctor (Tatym misses her “masseuse”.) And that’s not even listing everyone that’s been diagnosed with cancer.
In a town of 1700, that is a high percentage! With a cornfield in my backyard, it makes one wonder if inorganic pesticides and toxic fertilizers really are polluting the water and linked to the cause of cancer? Don’t google it if you want to be more discouraged like I am.

I’m usually a procrastinator (ie I haven’t even sent out our party invitations yet), but I’ve already decided what I’m going to dress up for Halloween this year…
OCTOMOM!
I already have a long black wig, and if I can’t find some big red lips, I can just paint on some big red clown lips. And the Dollar Tree carries dolls for $1 a piece. Cheap costume. People need to save all the money we can in this recession since she is spending our hard-earned tax dollars. Now, I’m not knocking the welfare system as some people need help sometimes, but when she deliberately wants more kids while on welfare already, don’t get me started.
Back to the topic of Halloween costumes… My brother went last year as Michael Phelps, complete with a Speedo, swim cap, goggles and 8 gold medals. It would have been even funnier if the smoking marijuana incidence had been revealed before then!

P.S. I’ve not only been slacking on my Mailbox Monday videos, I’ve been slacking on my iTunes Incantations. Right now, I’m listening to “Crystal Village” by Pete Yorn (and watching Obama on Leno). For Christmas, my youngest daughter wanted a new bed. She’s been sleeping in a hand-me-down daybed from my cousin, which I would have died to have when I was younger, but she wanted “a middle bed” with a headboard.
So I ordered the South Shore Twin-Size Mate’s Bed and Bookcase Headboard (3263097) from Sears.com. On Christmas Eve, my brother came over to put the pieces together and surprise her. The bed went together smoothly, but the headboard couldn’t be put together, because the back main piece was broken - cracked right now the middle.
I called Sears and the nice lady said they’d gladly send out a replacement right away and a UPS pick-up tag to pick up the damaged headboard. So, Tatym didn’t get her bed totally for Christmas, but we figured it would all come together soon enough…. Nope.
UPS came to pick up the damaged headboard, but we waited and waited for the replacement headboard. The first inquiry call said we had to wait until they received the other headboard before they shipped out the replacement. Then they said they could never find the replacement even though the UPS tracking number showed it when from here to there. Finally we were told they would credit my account and I would have to reorder the headboard myself.
It took over 2 months to get my credit charged back, and I never got credit for the coupon or $5 gift card I used. So, I decided to reorder the headboard through Walmart.com this time since they offer free site-to-store shipping and that was now a better deal.
We go to put it together, and the same piece is broken again! This time instead of calling Walmart, I decided to call South Shore direct. They are located in Quebec, Canada - gotta love the French accents - and they said would send out a replacement piece (K-30000293 Devant K) via FedEx.
The replacement piece came, and you guessed it, it was broken as well! Obviously they are not reinforcing the middle of this piece! I call again, and we are now waiting for the 4th replacement. I hope this one arrives in good shape as not only has Tatym been waiting 3 months for this Christmas present, but I’d like the house in order before I host the twins‘ Confirmation here in a couple of weeks.
So, this week I got an email from Wholesale Furniture Brokers announcing a 
new blog contest to win $500 worth of free kids furniture for your child for Easter! I am probably exempt from winning as I won a leather chair from them last year, but if you have a blog, I encourage you to enter (details)!
But if I am eligible to win, well, I’d pick the Princess Emily Twin Canopy Bed by Powell Company for my daughter, as I always envied my friend, Lisa’s canopy bed when I was little. And since she didn’t get a bed for Christmas, Easter would be the next best thing!
My, I got a little long-winded. I guess that makes up for me slacking on posting as of lately!
