Busy as a Beaver

Busy BeaverYes, I’ve been slacking on the blog posts. I was gonna claim I’ve been a “busy beaver”, but Urban Dictionary’s definition differs vastly from mine. So, what have I been up to? About 5′ 7″. Sorry, couldn’t resist the joke.

Speaking of jokesters, for one of my class reunions, I volunteered to type up the questionnaires of what everyone has been up to. People wrote their name, address, spouse, work, etc. Under “Children”, the former Homecoming King wrote “Waiting to see if I get any cards on Father’s Day”. And to think I dated him after that. Can’t say he was ever boring. Anyway, I think of that damn near every Father’s Day.

I’m not real close to my dad, as you long time readers would know, so I’ve been trying to muster some energy to go give him a card today. But the problem was just solved as he called asking me to loan (aka give) him some money, so I added a “happy” greeting to the call, and figured the money will be his present.

I had my Lasik enhancement surgery Friday and all went well. I can see better already, although my computer screens appear to not be as clear as before. If I need reading glasses for computer work, I’ll be okay with that. But I can definitely now see the detail on the camper that sits at the end of the culdesac, a camper belonging to new neighbors that now blocks my view of the passerby traffic. So much for my perfect view from my office window.

And isn’t it funny how I forgot just how much I hate to paint until one of my daughters wanted to move into the guest bedroom and paint the room hot pink. So we cleaned out the toy room (aka Barbie town) to move the guest bed in there, and painted away. It was so much easier to paint before trim was up and carpet was laid! And then she wanted a black stripe all the way around the room. Thinking what a pain it would be to paint a black stripe (the measuring and making straight), I had this *brilliant* idea to buy a couple rolls of black shiny duct tape, and it looks impeccable.

What I’m listening to on iTunes: “Last Name” by Carrie Underwood Reminds me of the movie “What Happens in Vegas” - great date movie, btw.

Feats of Wonder

Have you ever noticed that names come and go in phases? You can generally tell the age range of a person by their first name. For instance, take Ethel and Gladys, old right? And then Hailey or Madison, younger girl. Biblical names, like Matthew or Elizabeth, usually don’t go out of style.

Glittery Kim NameMost of the Kim’s I know are older than me. And at this time in my life, I sure don’t want to be classified as old. Not sure why I never really liked my name, guess I wanted something different or cuter. I went through a phase growing up where I wanted to spell it “Kym”, and I hated to be called “Kimmy”, still do. Don’t even try it or you’ll regret it.

Ok, enough of the name nonsense, did you check out my library? Yeah, I’ve been a reading fool of chick lit. And I’m giving away prizes to those that check it out.

Actually I’m giving away all kinds of good stuff right now, so pick your fancy…
A date with me (oh wait, been there, done that)
An opportunity to work in your pajamas like me
Some swanky martini glasses
A prepaid visa card
Some pasties (I’m serious, but the contest won’t be live until tomorrow, so bookmark it, and if you don’t know what pasties are, chances are you don’t want to win them).
And lastly, win some style.

Enter more online sweepstakes here. You can’t win if you don’t enter! I’m living proof that real people win prizes. This year alone, I’ve won a leather recliner, a day at the spa, and tons of prizes from Blingo.

P.S. Anyone else play PackRat on Facebook? If so, friend me up. According to my daughter, I seem to be a bit addicted to the game (and no prizes are to be had). Since finding the PackRat Wiki Recipe site, I’ve actually achieved some “Feats of Wonder”.

Happy S.H.I.T. Day

Mickey MouseI’m not Sure Happy It’s Thursday, but the saying sounded good. It feels more like a Thirsty Thursday to me. Too bad I don’t like $1 beers. I prefer Rainy Days and Mondays.

Today was rainy. During a thunderstorm this morning, my cable went out. Thinking CableOne would eventually fix the problem, I didn’t worry (if they were my internet provider, then I would have). I didn’t need the TV on as I listened to some of Andrew Wee’s podcasts (cuz he’s gonna interview me next week, and I want to be prepared). But when the kids came home from school with no TV, I figured I better call before they close for the day so I can watch the new episode of ER tonight. I missed The Office due to my daughter’s spring concert. Yes, the Brady Bunch theme song is stuck in my head now, too.

So, the cable repairman reported back to me that - get this - I have a whole nest of mice living in my cable box (he saw 7 or 8 alone) that have been chewing on the cable lines. So the lines must have got wet today in the rain and shut down. Great, just great. Have I ever mentioned that I HATE MICE?!

He tried to reassure me by saying they were field mice and not house mice - I didn’t know there was a difference. Guess I’ll be stocking up on some D-Con. Or I read you can use instant mashed potatoes to kill mice. I have a huge container of instant spuds from Sam’s Club that my kids refuse to eat (they didn’t fall for “they taste real”).

Maybe, just maybe, if I get brave enough to go near the mouse nest myself, I’ll bring along my FlipCam to share the horrid experience, as I’ve been addicted to vid-blogs lately. T.G.I.F. tomorrow? Don’t count on it.
