Confessions of a Shopaholic
Please rate this book (5 stars being the highest)This is the first book in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic Series.
One of my shopping blog readers suggested this series to me, obviously knowing I am a “shopaholic” (and shoeaholic) myself. My first thought is “Becky Bloomwood is so stupid” because who in their right mind would write letters to their bankers and be that irresponsible with money? But, I reminded myself that not everyone is cautious with their money as I, and there are stupid people out there, I think just to make us laugh. And this book did make me laugh. Obviously it wasn’t a bad book, because I went on to read two of the sequals and have two more in cue.

Think I may be the reader who suggested this series to Kim. I think all of the books in the series are hilarious, each one gets better. It’s fun to watch the main protagionist “mature” throughout each book, without changing the charm that makes the stories so funny. She is over the top, but I’d be willing to bet that an awful lot of us could identify in some way with some of her actions & ideas. The girl/woman in the book is so completely likeable that I’ve turned 2 other readers I know who are NOT shoppers into total fans of this series. There are also 2 books by the same author, not in the series that are equally funny & appealing. Appealing is the single most applicable word to describe the main character in these books. A reader can be completely aghast at her life & actions, yet be totally sympathetic to her as she bumbles her way about. You can’t help but cheer her on, and things do have a way of turning out for her throughout the most disastrous of experiences.

This was a great book, but the subsequent books in the collection are even better, in my opinion. But you need to read this book to get a feel for the lead character, who’s terrible irresponsible but yet somehow endearing.

Sounds like a shopping version of Legally Blonde. I must check it out - when I get back from shopping
