I just had to buy this book since it’s been the talk of many, even Oprah recommended. And the fact that it’s a true story (and still a chick flick), makes it even better.  I could sympathize with Elizabeth Gilbert in the beginning, as I got divorced in my early thirties as well.  Now, I’m just waiting for a book deal, so I can gallivant around the world, LOL.  Elizabeth ventured to Italy, India and Indonesia.  My favorite section was Indonesia. In fact, now I’ve added that to my lifetime goal list of visiting Bali, and would love to meet Wayan the Healer and Ketut the Medicine Man.  And if I could find my soul-mate there like Elizabeth did, all the better!

  2. This was a fabulous book with a lot of heart and soul. It really kept my interest and I found it endearing and emotionally charged. I love it and I love that you chose it!

  3. I loved the beginning, but then it got a smidge slow for me. I’m not as enthusiastic as you are about it, but I know I’m in the minority. Anyway, I agree that it is a decent choice for an armchair travelor.

  4. This book was great! I loved learning about all the different cultures. There were some slow parts, but overall it was really interesting.

  5. Honestly, I had a hard time getting into this book. It was pretty slow and sort of had an “already been done” feel for me.

  6. This book looked mildly intresting. However, it doesn’t seem great and I didn’t like the description enough to buy the book.

  7. Loved this book, I too was divorced young and love the adventurous story and travel sequences. Made me want to travel– hehe.

  8. A good friend read this book & liked it for the travel stories, she didn’t care for other aspects, thought it was “slow” kind of, but thought I would like it. Now with your mention of it I definitly want to check it out. I love travel writing, especially by women who travel alone.

  12. I’ve seen this book everywhere, but haven’t been tempted to pick it up. I’ve traveled quite a bit, but there is something about reading others’ travel stories that bores me.

  13. I was disappointed that the library did not have this book. However it has been special ordered. I’m looking forward to reading it.

  16. I couldn’t hang with this book- no matter how hard I tried…it lost my grip.

  17. In the book Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert describes divorce as “having a really bad car accident every single day for about two years”. After recently putting an ex through law school only to be divorced 8 months after graduation, I can relate to the comment. Very insightful book, full of laughter which takes you down the path Gilbert took to overcome divorce and depression. Great book!

  18. I bought Elizabeth Gilbert’s book for all my female relatives (mom, aunts, etc) They rave about it!

  19. I listened to it — audio book. I enjoyed it for the most part, although I wish I could have the money and freedom to do the same thing. It’s a lot harder to find yourself or have life-changing experiences when you can’t afford the time or money to travel.

  20. I just received this one myself. I haven’t read it yet but hope to take it to the beach with me. I have heard very good things about it.

  21. This book made me laugh and cry. I’m an armchair traveler. I wouldn’t have the guts to do what she did, but I felt as if I were along for the ride when I read this book. Her travels were magnificent, but her spiritual discoveries are attainable for all of us. I loved that about this book.

  22. I still haven’t read this one-but my friends have recommended it. I plan to get it soon.

  23. Wish there was a little more info on what the book is about. Without that, I probably wouldn’t read it based on some of the reviews here.

  24. I have not yet read this book, but it was given to me as a present from my mom in January. Just yesterday as we were kayaking around a lake I was continuously lectured about reading this book and told how mad she was because her twin sister had stolen the book from her before she had finished! I look forward to reading it as soon as I can finish all my calculus work!

  25. I wasn’t able to get into this book. Although the concept is great- I found the author a bit annoying- but this might be because I really couldn’t relate much to her.

You might love it though! Everyone else does!

  26. I saw this author on Oprah.. I’m not sure if I would get into this book or not.. one of those things that I’d know after the first 10 pages or so!

  28. From what I’ve read, this book sounds really interesting.

I’ll have to pick it up sometime!

  29. I thought this was interesting and a great coming to know myself woman’s tale. Can’t imagine leaving my extended family after a divorce though for as long as Gilbert did. She sure was wide open to experiences!

  30. This book moved me in so many ways. Elizabeth Gilbert was so different than me, but yet I felt so close to her. The book was so endearing and emotionally touching, a must read.

  32. Just bought this book to take on summer vacation. Everyone has been talking about it so I can’t wait to give it a try.

    By Bonnie S on Jun 26, 2008

  33. Sorry, but the title itself is a total turnoff to me. Also, I tend to resist anything touted on Oprah, “just because.”
